Trump’s law-and-order blitz marks one year with eye-popping haul of suspects, guns in blue city
Twelve thousand arrests. Twenty-one hundred guns. Memphis finally stopped treating a homicide file like weather.
Summary
- Fox News reports the Memphis Safe Task Force, launched one year ago Tuesday after President Trump directed National Guard support, has made more than 12,000 arrests and seized more than 2,100 illegal firearms, according to White House spokesperson Lauren Bis.
- Fox says overall crime is down 36 percent year over year, with motor vehicle thefts down 57 percent, robberies down 43 percent, aggravated assaults down 27 percent, burglaries down 27 percent, and shoplifting down 44 percent. Murders were down 44 percent in the first half of 2026 and now sit at a 35 percent drop.
- FBI data cited in the report showed Memphis had the highest violent-crime rate in the country in 2024. Homicides had surged to 397 in 2023 from 301 the year before, per the Justice Department. Overall crime in 2025 was already down 28 percent from 2024 before this anniversary mark.
- The task force is the federal-state-local package Trump put on a Democratic city inside Republican Tennessee. Fox also notes a parallel D.C. surge. Separate cases include Darian Glover's August conviction for fentanyl that killed three and Courtney Trenell's 15-year sentence as a getaway driver in Memphis bank robberies.
Commentary
A river dad still smells wet asphalt after a night shift and knows a porch light is supposed to mean a kid can walk to the store. He did not pay the levy so 397 homicides could be treated like weather.
12,000 arrests. 2,100 guns. Vehicle theft cut by more than half. The honest household already paid the car insurance. The vinyl booth at the all-night diner still waits, and for once the parking lot is quieter.
Look every working father who still parks a truck on a Memphis side street in the eye and answer this: if a Guard-backed task force can cut the murder file in a year, who still owns the next night that City Hall wanted to call compassion?
Comments
12,000 arrests. 2,100 guns. 36 percent down. Keep that order.
I stood a street so a porch light still meant a walk home. A Guard truck is not an occupation. It is a backup.
397 homicides in 2023. Highest violent-crime rate 2024. One-year mark. Print the three.
Allied cities still treat a homicide spike as a failure, not a vibe.
Glover fentanyl. Trenell 15 years. File the two names under the haul.
I still lock the truck at 2 a.m. I want the next year to keep those numbers falling.
A 57 percent drop in stolen cars is not a lecture. It is a warning the street already paid.
A soft-on-crime docket is a second border around a school zone.
Fox printed 12,000, 2,100, and the 36 percent. Argue those nouns.
Keep the task force. Keep the seizures. A murder file is not supposed to be weather.
