Trump Signs Greenland Deal With Denmark, Announces Plans For Two New Military Bases
Pituffik stays. Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig open. No non-NATO base, no end date.
Summary
- Breitbart, citing AP, reports President Donald Trump signed a U.S.-Denmark-Greenland security accord Tuesday on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, keeping Greenland under Danish control while expanding the U.S. military footprint.
- The United States presence in Greenland has fallen from thousands of troops on 17 bases after 1945 to about 200 at Pituffik Space Base in the northwest, which handles missile warning, missile defense, and space surveillance. Trump told the U.N. the U.S. would immediately begin developing a large presence, including two very major military bases.
- The released text lets Washington modernize Pituffik, stand up defense areas at Narsarsuaq in the south and Mestersvig in the east, add more defense areas, and use wide mobility including undersea access. Contracts for those bases go to Greenlandic sources to the maximum extent possible.
- No non-NATO country may set up manned or unmanned military installations or a persistent presence without the signatories' consent. The accord has no end date. If Greenland becomes independent it stays in NATO and inherits Denmark's duties. Danish PM Mette Frederiksen called it a deal that can last forever.
Commentary
A Navy dad still walks a pier and knows 200 troops on a missile-warning pad is supposed to mean a hold, not an empty east coast China can rent. He did not pay the levy so a no-end-date map could sit unsigned.
Pituffik. Narsarsuaq. Mestersvig. No non-NATO flag. The vinyl chair in that ready room still holds the honest household that already bought the Arctic watch.
Look every working father who still locks a porch after a night shift in the eye and answer this: if Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig already sit on a signed map, who still owns the next ice runway a non-NATO flag tries to rent?
Comments
Pituffik. Narsarsuaq. Mestersvig. Keep those three stamps.
I stood a gate so a missile pad still meant a hold. A no-end-date map is not a weather report.
No non-NATO base. Undersea access. Print both.
Allied ice still treats a signed defense area as a treaty, not a press line.
200 at Pituffik, 17 old bases, forever clause. File the three.
I still smell diesel at 2 a.m. I want the next ice runway empty of a load.
A signed east-coast pad is not a vibe. It is a warning the street already paid.
A no-non-NATO clause next to undersea access is a second border around every honest Arctic pier.
Breitbart printed Pituffik, Narsarsuaq, and Mestersvig. Argue those nouns.
Hold the two new pads. Keep the forever clause. An unsigned ice strip is not a souvenir.
