Trump directs CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz to end Medicaid gender transition funding
Trump told Mehmet Oz to pull Medicaid money out of gender-transition procedures.
Summary
- President Trump directed CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz to end Medicaid funding for gender-transition procedures, Fox News reports.
- Medicaid is a joint federal-state program, so a CMS order hits both Washington and the states that billed the codes.
- The directive follows a year of state bans and European pullbacks on the same treatments.
- Hospitals that built programs around those codes will have to find another payer or stop.
- Oz is the official who has to write the coverage rule, not just the press line.
Commentary

Medicaid exists for broken bones, births, and actual disease. It is not a venture fund for a medical fad.
If a clinic cannot survive without the federal code, the clinic was never medicine. It was a draw on the Treasury.
