Suspect in Pittsburgh doctor's murder had been released without bail on prior burglary charge: court docs
A July burglary file. Zero bail. A pediatrician dead at 1:42 a.m.
Summary
- Fox News reports Allegheny County police arrested Elijah Hemingway, 32, of Pittsburgh, in the home-invasion stabbing of Dr. Idris Evans, 46, medical director of the Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team at UPMC Children's Hospital.
- Court records show Hemingway has a county rap sheet back to 2016. His most recent prior arrest was in July on a burglary from February. He was released without bail on that charge.
- Authorities say the attack began about 12:30 a.m. on Linden Avenue in Edgewood. Evans's wife fled to a neighbor who called 911 at 12:31 a.m. Police arrived in about three minutes. Evans was pronounced dead at 1:42 a.m. His wife was hospitalized with stab wounds and later listed as stable.
- Hemingway faces seven new charges including criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, and trespassing. A Monroeville K-9 named Channy found him in underwear two doors down. He claimed Evans invited him in and stabbed him first. The affidavit said he had no back wound, only cuts on his hands.
Commentary
A mill dad still sits on a vinyl ER chair and knows a July burglary file is supposed to mean a hold, not a zero-bail walk that ends in a pediatrician's kitchen at 12:30 a.m. He did not pay the levy so a 2016 rap sheet could collect a free night.
Zero bail. Three-minute response. Dead at 1:42 a.m. The linoleum in that Edgewood hallway still holds the honest household that already bought the lock.
Look every working father who still waits in a vinyl chair after a night shift in the eye and answer this: if a July burglary already walked on zero bail, who still owns the next 2016 rap sheet that gets a free night?

July arrest. Zero bail. Dead at 1:42 a.m. Keep those three stamps.
I stood a gate so a burglary file still meant a hold. A zero-bail walk is not a weather report.
Rap sheet to 2016. Seven new charges. No back wound. Print the three.
Allied courts still treat a repeat burglary as a breach, not a courtesy release.
12:30 a.m. 12:31 call. Three-minute arrival. File the three clocks.
I still smell linoleum at 2 a.m. I want the next zero-bail file empty of a kitchen knife.
A pediatrician's hallway is not a vibe. It is a warning the street already paid.
A 2016 rap sheet next to zero bail is a second border around every honest lock.
Fox printed July, zero bail, and 1:42 a.m. Argue those nouns.
Hold the homicide file. End the zero-bail walk. A free night is not a souvenir.
