Russia and China Block U.S. Effort to Extend U.N. Monitoring of Iran Sanctions
Eleven votes. Two vetoes. The Iran cheat-watch panel just went dark.
Summary
- Breitbart reports Russia and China on Thursday vetoed a U.S. draft at the U.N. Security Council that would have extended for another year the independent panel of experts monitoring Iran sanctions. The resolution would have passed 11-2 with two abstentions without the vetoes.
- The sanctions were imposed by France, Germany, and the United Kingdom in September 2025 under the snapback provision of the JCPOA after the E3 said Iran had repeatedly breached its commitments, including interfering with IAEA inspectors and enriching uranium to near weapons-grade.
- Moscow and Beijing had already sabotaged the panel by voting against eight prospective members. U.S. representative Jennifer Locetta said without the panel the council loses its principal impartial reporting on sanctions violations, a gap that benefits the Iranian regime.
- On September 9 the 35-member IAEA board declared Iran in violation of its nuclear non-proliferation agreements, a step beyond the non-compliance finding that preceded U.S. and Israeli strikes last summer. IAEA director Rafael Grossi said the lack of information about facilities and material is a serious proliferation concern.
Commentary
A shop dad still hears a tanker price in the diesel and knows a sanctions panel is supposed to mean a file, not a veto. He did not pay the levy so Moscow and Beijing could kill the watch while Iran hid the next room.
Eleven to two. Two vetoes. Eight blocked experts. September 9 IAEA violation. The vinyl chair in that Vienna briefing still waits. The honest household already bought the overtime for the crews that flew last summer.
Look every working father who still fills a tank after a night shift in the eye and answer this: if the cheat-watch panel already went dark, who still owns the next Iranian room the IAEA cannot enter?
Comments
11-2. Two vetoes. Panel mandate dead. Keep the three.
I stood a gate so a snapback still meant a file. A veto is not a legal theory.
E3 snapback 2025. Eight blocked experts. Grossi Sept 9. Print the three.
Allied boards still treat a hidden centrifuge as a breach, not a quarrel.
Locetta: monitoring gap benefits Tehran. File that line.
I still smell diesel at 2 a.m. I want the next tanker price to come from a watched lane.
A dark panel is not diplomacy. It is a warning the street already paid.
A China-Russia veto over Iran is a second border around every strait.
Breitbart printed 11-2, the E3 snapback, and Grossi. Argue those nouns.
Name the veto. Keep the watch. A dark panel is not a souvenir.
