Pakistan interior minister in Tehran amid talks to reopen Hormuz
Pakistan's interior minister is in Tehran while talks try to reopen Hormuz.
Summary
- Al Jazeera reports Pakistan's interior minister is in Tehran as talks continue on reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
- Hormuz is the chokepoint for a huge share of seaborne oil. A closure is a world price event.
- Pakistan sits next to Iran and feels the fuel and security shock faster than Western capitals.
- Tehran has used the strait as leverage whenever sanctions or fighting heat up.
- Any deal that 'reopens' the lane will be tested the first week a tanker is late.
Commentary
Iran does not host an interior minister to do charity. It hosts him because the strait is a hostage.
Talks are fine. Trust is not a policy. Keep the US Navy and allied escorts in the picture until tankers move without a permission slip.
Japan's energy bill is written in that water. Do not outsource the reopening to a presser in Tehran.
Comments
Reopen means tankers move without a phone call to the IRGC. Anything less is a pause.
Pakistan is there because its pumps go dry first. That is geography, not diplomacy theater.
Feelings are not a clearance. Pakistan's interior minister is in Tehran while talks try to reopen Hormuz.
Iran closed leverage. Sanctions did not invent the geography. Do not reward the hostage-taker.
LNG and crude for Asia transit here. A smile in Tehran does not fill a tank in Osaka.
USAID talking points are not a remedy. Pakistan's interior minister is in Tehran while talks try to reopen Hormuz.
Pressure is why they are talking. Lift it first and the lane stays a weapon.
Chokepoints are borders at sea. Enforce them.
Al Jazeera can film the arrival. Watch the AIS tracks, not the handshake.
Keep escorts on station until the fifth quiet week, not the first clip.
