Detransitioner takes malpractice fight to appeals court after North Carolina law change
Hormones at 17. A double mastectomy at 18. A clock ran out. Then the legislature reopened the door.
Summary
- Fox News reports the North Carolina Court of Appeals will hear arguments Sept. 29 in Prisha Mosley's malpractice and fraud suit against doctors she says steered her into hormones at 17 and a double mastectomy at 18.
- A trial court first treated the case as untimely. In 2025 lawmakers passed HB 808, extending the statute of limitations for malpractice claims by people who underwent sex-change procedures, including pending cases, and overrode a veto by Gov. Josh Stein.
- Mosley, now 28, said a judge initially found her fraud claim had merit because she was told she could change sex and had to do so to survive. After the new law, the trial court still dismissed the whole case with prejudice in August 2025.
- She said she was put through menopause as a teenager and told side effects were male puberty. She cited Fox Varians's $2 million New York judgment and said no detransitioner malpractice case that reached a jury has lost.
Commentary
A Charlotte night nurse still smells antiseptic and watches a clinic that should not have sold a 17-year-old a lie about a new sex. She did not work a double so a clock could bury a ruined chest.
Seventeen. Eighteen. Twenty-eight. Sept. 29. The honest dad already paid the copay. The veto override paid the second chance.
Look every working mother who still checks a locker after practice in the eye and answer this: if a statute can reopen the file, who still wants the next minor left on the table?

Hormones at 17. Mastectomy at 18. HB 808. Sept. 29. Hold that chain.
I stood a ward so a kid would stay whole. A clock should not bury a ruined chest.
Stein veto overridden. August 2025 dismissal. Fraud first found to have merit. Publish the three.
Allied clinics still treat a minor chest as off limits. A lie about changing sex is a bill.
Varians $2 million. No jury loss yet. File the two.
I still wipe a rail at 3 a.m. I want the next 17-year-old off the hormone cart.
A daughter should not be told she must destroy a chest to live. Keep the appeal. Keep HB 808.
A closed file on a minor is a second border around the body. The first lie should have been enough.
Fox printed 17, 18, HB 808, and Sept. 29. Argue those nouns.
Keep the appeal. Keep the override. A minor's chest is not a clinic product.
